Yes, you can. As of March 2020, UCSB is running a proto-type service which allows access to remote desktop devices at UCSB via a web browser. So, you can do this with a chromebook (or other devices).
Process
- (one time) Install / Activate DUO You have to install the DUO application from the Google or Apple stores for your iphone or android phone to support a two factor authentication. "Duo Security is required after authenticating with UCSB NetID/password - If you are not yet enrolled, Download the Duo Security app from App Store or Google Play store. The site will walk you through the self-enrollment of your device(s). " You can see screen shots of the activation process at this link. Run through the activation by logging into https://ps.vpn.ucsb.edu/rdp
- Now you are activated and you can start to create some bookmark links for remote desktop access.
