This article will help you get started with using a virtual machine with a GaBi professional license. Currently, Bren has one virtual machine with GaBi professional so students will need to coordinate. If you have not contacted the compute team yet about GaBi professional, please email compute@bren.ucsb.edu so we can get you the appropriate resources to connect. As part of the onboarding process, the compute team will set you up with the following:
- Windows policy group (gabi_users)
- Google group access (gabi-users@bren.ucsb.edu)
- Google calendar resource (bren-compute-vm-gabi)
Part 1 - Reserve time on google calendar
Since this virtual machine is a shared resource, students will need to coordinate when they want to use it. To do so, you can block off time on the google calendar (bren-compute-vm-gabi, link here). You should have been added to the google calendar when we set up your GaBi resources. It should populate under your list of calendars in google calendar. If it does not pop up, you can try adding the calendar again by:
- Pressing the "+" next to other calendar on the left side panel
- Select "Browse Resources"
- Scrolling down to "bren"
- Find and select bren-compute-vm-gabi
Note: Please respect set reservations and do not edit other student's reservations. If you notice a change in your reservation, please email the google group of other GaBi users (gabi-users@bren.ucsb.edu) to remedy this issue.
Part 2 - Remote into the GaBi virtual machine
For instructions on how to use Remote Desktop, please visit this article.
The IP address that you will connect to is 128.111.111.95
Part 3 - Using GaBi
The GaBi database is located in:
c:\gabi_db
If asked, the GaBi license file is located in:
c:\gabi_lic
Important: Please make a copy of the GaBi database in the same folder and name it after your login or group project.
